Module 3 – Continuity of curriculum, teaching and learning
Introduction

Start this module by spending a few minutes discussing or thinking about your experience of continuity of curriculum, teaching and learning in relation to transfers and transitions.
Which of these seem most familiar?:
- There are opportunities for Years 6 and 7 teachers to experience each other’s lessons first hand.
- Our pupils were well prepared in English as we actually bought the book for the primary schools when they were in Year 6.
- It just can’t be helped if they have to do the same topics again in Year 7, we have too many partner schools to consider them all.
- We encourage all our staff to adjust the curriculum according to pupils’ prior knowledge.
Effective continuity will produce enthusiastic and engaged pupils whose learning journey will not be hindered by transfers and transitions.
In this module you’ll see some ways to help you achieve and sustain continuity in the curriculum and in teaching and learning, and look at cross–phase planning.
Now move on to Some experiences.
