Module 1 – Using data and information
Introduction

Start this module by spending a few minutes discussing or thinking about your experience of gathering and using data for transfers and transitions.
Which of the following seem most familiar?:
- We gather data and information, but it never seems to be used.
- We’ve made very good use of information gathered by another key stage teacher and it’s helped me plan my next lessons.
- We get data from previous schools but we test again.
- We can’t use all the data we get for planning, as we’ve got so many partner schools.
- We get pretty good information and data from other schools and are making use of it.
Gathering good data is vital for a successful transition. So are good links between teachers and the senior leadership team (SLT) in partner schools. This helps to ensure that information is passed on and used effectively.
This module will show you why the effective use of data can improve transfers and transitions and give you some examples and tips on how to gather useful data and get the best out of information supplied.
