Module 2 – Targeting support and intervention
Introduction

Start this module by spending a few minutes discussing or thinking about your experience of targeting support and intervention for transfers and transitions.
Which of these seem most familiar?:
- I didn’t have enough information to be confident about planning appropriately.
- It’s very difficult when most of the class need individual support.
- Support for underperforming groups is better in some subject areas than others.
- We have a good system in place to recognise those who need intervention, it starts with a good relationship with the primary schools.
- Some of the pupils arrive with a good understanding of how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve.
- We have such a range of abilities, it’s not easy identifying those most at risk of underperforming.
In this module you’ll discover how targeted support and intervention are used to ensure that:
- All teachers are aware of individual pupils’ learning needs at the start of the year and set challenging learning targets.
- Early in Year 7, pupils know about their learning strengths and the aspect they are trying to improve.
- All pupils feel their work is valued and are aware of the progress they are making.
- Pupils are responsive and enquiring in their learning.
Now move on to Underperformance.
