Module 4 – School ethos and climate for learning

Start this module by spending a few minutes discussing or thinking about your school ethos and its impact on transfers and transitions.


Which of these seem most familiar?:

  1. We can articulate our ethos and describe the impact it has.
  2. Our mission statement talks about ethos and the climate for learning but it doesn’t happen in practice.
  3. We do some things really well, but others get forgotten, our ethos is not very coherent.
  4. Our ethos seems to be in conflict with that of our partner schools.

The ethos of a school underlies every aspect of school life.

A school’s ethos and climate for learning should contribute to the outcomes of the Every Child Matters and personalised learning agendas.
